Hudson also replaced Emblen, who had been a strong Musa supporter, with Hudson's former Bahrain assistant coach in Alex Armstrong.
Having finished up with South Melbourne and immediately rejoined Team Wellington, Musa said he had a long phone conversation with Hudson earlier this week about his season and the coach's plans.
"It's been a great season, we won the [Victoria State] league. I knew there was games coming up so I was trying to get back for regular game time leading into the November [international] window."
While he currently players centre-half at club level, Musa said Hudson seen him more as a left back for the All Whites tour.
"I'm the only left-sided cover in New Zealand.
"It's just good to be involved.
"It's pretty exciting, really, to see all the young names on there, they're looking four years ahead.
"We're going to have to all grow up a bit and take it by the scruff of the neck."
Musa went straight back to Wellington in his car for training last night, before his first game in the new season for Team Wellington tomorrow.
Hudson said after the All Whites had not won any of their last seven games, and had only one win outside of an island nation opponent in two-and-a-half years, it was time for changes.
"In result terms we've not achieved ... and we intend to build a squad of players which is capable of not only securing a place at the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia but succeeding there.
"That building process required that we take a very close look at the mix of players we have, how often we work together and the style of play we employ in camps and games.
"The squad we've chosen for the China and Thailand games is the first assembled with those factors in mind."
