Time is running out to enter Sport Whanganui's annual McDonald's Mud Muster, being held again at Shelterview Jetsprint Park on October 15.

This will be the 4th annual dash through the squelch, the second at Shelterview after the switch from the Rangitikei Farmstay.

Closing date to sign up this year is Sunday, October 2, with categories including 3km, 5km and 19km races, along with a 'mud mate team' 5km race.

This year is the first time that Year 7-8 students can enter the 3km event.

"The entry closing date will be upon us before we know it and we don't want anyone to miss out on the fun, so get those entries in," said Rachel O'Connor, Sport Whanganui events manager.

"The free early-morning training sessions we've teamed up with Wanganui Bootcamp to run every Wednesday at Cooks Gardens have been going great and have been well attended.

"These will be running until Wednesday, October 12, so there's still time to squeeze in a few sessions for anyone wanting support in preparing for the Mud Muster."

O'Connor said there are a few changes and surprises from the 2015 course layout.

"People can be sure of an unforgettable experience - with all the native bush, dams, streams, plenty of hills and slopes to climb and slide down, not to mention the stunning views.

"And then there's the wild and wet jetsprint track itself, with tricky obstacles such as the Spin-out Pool and the Tyre Wall of Death, and prime viewing for spectators."

The racing will start at 10am on October 15.

All entries go into the draw for spot prizes, with people also encouraged to dress up wacky on the day.

There will also be designated spectator areas for anyone who would like to come and just watch, with refreshments available for cash purchase.

To enter or find more information, go online to www.mudmuster.co.nz or visit the Sport Whanganui offices at 40 Maria Place Extension.
