The Rush sisters Jacs and Steph pulled a trick learned from Whanganui rowing great Philippa Baker-Hogan to get home and win silver in their grade at the World Masters Games on Lake Karapiro on Tuesday.
The Aramoho Wanganui Rowing Club members took silver in the Womens' C Grade (42-50yrs) DoubleSculls in a race where first to third place was seperated by less than .7 of a second.
"It was absolutely amazing and way beyond our expectations," Jacs Rush said yesterday. "We were completely blown away after qualifying fastest in the semi-final and knew we had more to give. With 250m to go in the final sitting about fourth or fifth we pulled a trick we learned from Philippa. It's a 'call to go trick', although I can't elaborate and tell you all our secrets. We powered home to finish second, but there was less than .7 of a second separating first and third."
Meanwhile, Union Boat Club rower and former world champion Baker-Hogan added another bronze to her bronze won on day one with another bronze in the women's D Grade Quad Sculls with her "Woodys" Cambridge teammates
