The members of the Wanganui East Petanque Club have been busy both at home and abroad in the past month.

Club standout Christine Strichen and her New Zealand team mates Sharon Cannon and Claire Wilson had a mixed bag at the women's world championships in Bangkok, Thailand last month.

The New Zealanders lost to Malaysia, Belgium and Chinese-Taipei while having wins against Hungary and Mauritius.

So two wins from five games was not enough to go through to the top rounds, although two others teams did get through with two wins and a superior points differential.

This put the Kiwis into the "Coup de Nations" knockout round, where they did not play well and were beaten by Australia to end their tournament.

Club spokesperson Pauline Ray said the event was still a well run tournament at a great venue, and a thrill for the three to once again carry the flag for New Zealand.

The Wanganui East open triples were held recently with 20 teams in total taking part.

This included included entries from Auckland to Dunedin, along with a French couple on holiday join in with a local player at the last moment.
