Wanganui bodybuilder Jan Dixon has reflected back on a successful year littered with podium finishes.

Training out of the City Gym, Dixon started the season with the Nabba Manawatu/Wanganui Championships on home turf in April where she placed second in the Open Women's Physique. She followed this with the INBA in Taupo in August where she again finished second in the Open Physique and won the over 40 Women's Physique.

After competing in Taupo Dixon was invited to be included in the New Zealand Natural Body Building team to compete in the Natural Olympia in San Diego on this weekend, but due to the cost, is unable to go.

Her aim was to take out the all elusive Nabba National Championships overall title which was held on October 26 in Palmerston North. She achieved a creditable second in the Open women.

The last show for the season was a week after the nationals in North Harbour.

Dixon won her over-40 Women's Physique class and this now qualifies her for the Nabba nationals in 2015. After returning home she was contacted by Nabba head quarters inviting her to be part of the Nabba team to compete in Hamburg/Germany on November 29 this year, but with such short notice she was unable to attend this either.

Her goals for next year are to re-qualify for the Natural Olympia and raise enough funds to compete in San Diego.

"It will be good to go over and compare myself with other Natural Body Builders and see how close to the rest of the world I am," Dixon said.

"I could not have got to where I am today without the support of my family and trainer/mentor Pat McNamara. I would like to thank them heaps."

City Gym would like to encourage more interest in competitive bodybuilding next season. McNamara is currently training five competitor. City Gym had four others compete this year.

Shareece Dixon competed in her 1st Physique competition in Taupo and won the Junior Women's Physique (under-19) then competed in Wellington where she came second in the Junior Women's Physique. Charlotte Dixon competed in her first competition in Wellington where she competed in Shape - it was a tough class and she was not placed.

Vicki Boswell competed in Wanganui and won the over 40 Women Physique, while Mark Benson competed in Wanganui and was runner-up in the Men's Athletic Tall class.

"City Gym is not just a bodybuilding gym," Dixon said.

"It is a very friendly place. Co-owners Pat and Danny Barnes, who has won bodybuilding titles himself, cater for anyone from top athletes to people who just want to feel better no matter their age, shape or gender."
