Wanganui racer Glenn Martin is gearing up to claim his best result yet this weekend in Taupo.
Martin leads the North Island Pro-Sevens Series in his RX8 heading into the last round in Taupo and while he has a 150-point buffer over his nearest rivals victory is far from adone deal.
"There's 225 points up for grabs in the final round, so there's a chance I can be toppled if I have a bad weekend," Martin said yesterday.
The RX8 is new to the competition points series, but after winning 12 of the 15 races over the five rounds to date, Martin is confident he can celebrate Easter by cracking the champagne. Martin has also finished runner-up three times this season and looks a strong chance in his GM Panelbeating, Pulse Performance Racing-sponsored machine.
"My wins have been fairly convincing and by reasonable margins, so I'll need to have a bad weekend to lose, I think. My best result yet is second in the North Island Pro-Sevens series 1 two years ago."
The RX8 has been built and prepared in Wanganui by Pulse Performance and reaches speeds in excess of 210kph.
"It's pretty exciting stuff and gets the adrenalin flowing. The beauty of this car is that it's probably the cheapest race car to built brand new as far as race cars go."
Martin leaves today for scrutineering on Friday and qualifying to determine grid positions on Saturday morning. Racing begins on Saturday afternoon and continues on Sunday.
