Bayer Marist Wanganui had an Anniversary Weekend of mixed fortunes at a sun-drenched Victoria Park.

After convincingly beating St Johns Technical in Saturday's replay of their rained-off match in December, Marist earned the right to take on Taranaki champions Inglewood on the Tasman Tanning No1 pitch at the park on Sunday.

Playing in hot, sunny conditions, Bayer Marist knuckled down to score 270 all out after 49.2 overs. Todd Inness 83 and Brett Cameron with 72 did best with the bat. Nick Harding was the best of the Tech bowlers, claiming four wickets for 52 runs from 9.2 overs.

St Johns Tech had no answer and were bundled out for just 95 runs after 22.1 overs, well short of their target. Marist's Fraser Kinnerley did much of the damage, taking four wickets for very few runs.

Best of the Tech batsmen were Harding (26) at first drop and Devon Purvis (28).

However, in similar conditions on Sunday, Marist struggled against the Inglewood batting, allowing them to score 323/4 in 50 overs. Inglewood opener K Dravitski smashed 133 before being caught by Ross Kinnerley off John McIlraith.

Opening for Marist, McIlraith top-scored with 44, while Inness, Ross Kinnerley (25) and Sam O'Leary (24 not out) were the only batsmen to make an impression.

Inglewood were clearly superior in the conditions, finally bundling Marist out for 96 in 37 overs.
