It is the typical late walk-up, but the second annual McDonald's Mud Muster at the Rangitikei Farmstay tomorrow will top the success of the inaugural event.
Sport Wanganui put the call out to hurry up and enter the 3-10km slogs through the Tyrone farm in the Turakina Valley by October
12, as bus transport requirements mean there is no on-the-day registration.
Event manager Rachel O'Connor said they had 530 entries, well up on the 350 from last year, with most of the late rush coming from locals.
The event includes a beginners "Give it a Go" course over 3km, as well as the traditional 5km and 10km courses, while the net was cast wider to include registrations from Auckland and Wellington. The run through farmland will comprise man-made and natural obstacles including rugged hills, ponds and streams, a vertical wall-climb, a muddy cargo net crawl, a mighty "slip and slide" and mud.
Participants plus supporters, around 650 in total, will be mainly transported to the event by Tranzit Coachlines from Marton and Wanganui, with a few taking private transport.
