Eight Wanganui country schools and hundreds of aspiring young athletes descended on Cooks Gardens on Tuesday with one purpose in mind.
The annual Western Cluster Athletics day is designed for healthy, active, competitive fun, although the end goal is not to produce a single winner, it's more about participation.
OrganiserAimee Loveridge from Mosston School said the day was designed to cater for kids 8 to 13 grappling with six sport-related disciplines.
Students from Mosston, Westmere, Ngamatapouri, Waverley, Kai Iwi, Brunswick, Waitotara and Faith City School trucked into town for the occasion.
"There was no overall winner on the day. They were all winners simply by participating," Loveridge said yesterday.
