It was all about who had the kick and who had the stamina at the 2015 Wanganui Inter-Intermediate Schools cross-country around the St George's back fields yesterday afternoon.

There were around 40 runners in each of the four grades, coming from 17 invited schools, which covered the distance in overcast and cool conditions, going into a headwind from the start line.

The Year 7 students completed 1890m - two laps around the out perimeter of the field with a shorter extension to the finish-line, while the Year 8s covered 2800m, running three laps plus the extra.

Runners had to time their bursts of speed right, as they looked to pass each other on the undulating hills at the back fence boundary.

Based on team results, St George's School claimed the Year 7 girls' crown based on 3-to-count and 6-to-count results, while Hunterville School and Wanganui Intermediate shared the Year 7 boys' honours.
