Josh Trillo got four wickets as they tried to get after him, with 71 runs coming from his ten overs, while spinner Bryant Galpin was quite effective given United's mood, with 1-40 from his complement.
Marton's wickets fell a regular intervals throughout their run chase, all out by the 23rd over.
Pace bowler Ryan Slight got amongst the top order immediately, finishing with a five wicket haul.
The rest of the wickets were shared amongst the United bowlers, with Rayner's dismissal on 23 being the end of one of Marton's last hopes for a fighting total, as Sharrock hit the stumps..
John Anthony had some resistance down the order, while running out of partners, and was one of the last wickets to fall for 28.
Hobbs praised Smith and Sharrock for their partnership deciding the match.
United's victory meant they became the new holders of the "Wingnut" Trophy - a new wooden prize played on a challenge basis between the two clubs, with the names of both clubs engraved on it and then the winner and loser of the most recent match being shown by turning the second tier.
Marton had been the holder as they won the Twenty20 competition match between the teams on December 5. While Marist had a full complement of 12 players, what they lacked was good timing with the bat as Tech wicketkeeper and captain Dominic Lock reaped the benefits with six caught-behind dismissals.
In the first step of a great match, allrounder Nick Harding took 3-32 from his ten overs, shouldering the main bowling responsibility with Ross Kinnerley being away.
While Marist's batting was reinforced by the return of Brett Cameron, he too fell right before getting into a groove, as Marist slumped to 98-8.
It took a fight from Sam O'Leary (39) and Deek Reuters (20) to put on a 68 run partnership and give their team some hope - O'Leary striking seven boundaries before being bowled by Caleb Greene.
Kane Watkin also cleaned out the middle order with his 3-36 from ten overs.
Wanting an aggressive start, Tech took a chance and sent Harding in at opener, continuing to fill the Kinnerley double role, and he responded with a typical hard hitting 77 from 51 balls, with 11 boundaries and two sixers.
"Just, why not? I was swinging and missing a bit," Harding said about going in first.
"When I was like on 30, I was swinging like a golf club.
"I was pretty lucky."
It meant Tech were well on the way to being home and hosed at 111-2 after 15 overs when Harding was dismissed, as Dominic Lock had the time to wait for the bad balls - hitting an impressive eleven boundaries himself out of an innings total of 46, from 44 balls.
However, from 156-4, Tech still got a few concerning speed wobbles as O'Leary did not give up, getting the ball in tight and picking up three late wickets to finish with 4-34 from his six overs and the one Marist player who could keep his head up.
Tech's tail still snaffled through the remaining 15 runs to win by the 27th over.
United's hopes of finishing top of the table were helped markedly when competition leaders Paraparaumu CC fell apart against third placed Weraroa CC, losing by 116 runs after they collapsed to be all out for 67 in 27 overs, chasing a target of 184.
However, Tech's desire of snatching fourth spot took a blow as Levin Old Boys were very comfortable seven wicket winners over Kapiti OB, bowling them out for 93 and then walloping the winning runs in just 11 overs.
