Manawatu-Wanganui fell just short of the semifinals at the 2015 Toro Interprovincial in Invercargill on Friday after the narrowest of defeats to defending champions Waikato.
Having beaten Canterbury 3.5-1.5 in the morning, Manawatu-Wanganui went down 3-2 in a close match where three of the games were decided on the lasthole.
Marton's Lachie McDonald lost to Nick Coxon 3/2 while Castlecliff's Hayden Ring had been replaced for the final day of round games.
Waikato rebounded from their morning loss to Bay of Plenty with the victory meaning North Harbour also did not make the final four.
It is the first time since 2011 that Manawatu-Wanganui have not made the playoffs of the match-play tournament.
Waikato would go on to win back-to-back titles, beating Otago 4-1 in the final.
