By Jared Smith Jessica Watkin could not add another national title with Central Districts to her resume for the summer as she and Anndion Lodge Wanganui teammates Michelle Mitchell and Lisa Grant were in the Hinds team beaten in the Twenty20 final by Canterbury on Sunday. The Magicians, boasting an all-WhiteFern bowling attack, had been undefeated in the T20 women's domestic competition, and held the Hinds to 92/9 from their 20 overs. Mitchell (5) and Watkin (10) went cheaply batting around captain Kate Broadmore, who top scored with 42, but when the skipper went at the end of the 16th over, the Hinds lost their last chance to push on for a defendable total. Grant was 12th woman. During Canterbury's innings at the MainPower Oval in Rangiora, the 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch, and it was felt at the ground. The Magicians certainly weren't rattled, as skipper Amy Satterthwaite followed up her 3-11 with the ball to top score with 49, sharing an opening stand of 73 with Frances Mackay (26 not out). Watkin took the catch to dismiss Erin Bermingham for 10. Canterbury got through to 93-3 with three overs to spare. Watkin finished with 0-27 from her spinners. In the Central Stags' Plunket Shield game against Canterbury in Nelson, Whanganui batsman Ben Smith made 19 as the Stags were bowled out for 168, chasing Canterbury's first innings total of 204. Smith took 1-17 from bowling three overs in the first innings.
