Wanganui City College and Cullinane College had dismal starts to the Manawatu secondary schools rugby season on Saturday, with both suffering hefty losses.
Playing hosts to Manukura 1st XV, City College went down 59-19 in its AEC Premier grade match while Cullinane did little better, after a 35-12 thrashing intheir away clash with Dannevirke High 1st XV.
The matches marked the kick off of the Manawatu season proper. The results leave unbeaten sides Manukura, Dannevirke and Tu Toa 1st XVs on a maximum four points in the standings, with both Cullinane and City College on zero, along with the Feilding 2nd XV.
Palmerston North Boys' High School's 2nd XV and the Palmerston North Development team have yet to play.
City College face Wanganui Collegiate 1st XV in an inter-school match at Collegiate today, with kick-off at 3.30pm.
Meanwhile, Wanganui High School 1st XV had a bye in the Manawatu Colts division. WHS sit just two points outside the semifinals spots with three wins from five matches.
