They learned how to spread their index and middle fingers along the bow and what side the 'goose' or 'turkey' fletchings of the arrow should go.
Most importantly, the 40 or so guests of the Wanganui Archery Club had a fun morning at Wembley Park as they took part ina 'have a go' day at the Wembley Park range on Saturday. The club was established in 1945 and currently has around 20-25 fulltime members, but Ian Hollins said the open day meant they had signed up plenty for their next six-week beginners block, which starts on October 4.
"We didn't see anybody who didn't have a smile on their face."
After the beginners block, those who want to continue with the club will be able to shoot from about 20-25m distances, twice what was being done on Saturday for the first-timers.
