WANGANUI Intermediate sprinter Genna Maples has returned from the North Island Colgate Games with a three-medal haul. And they're all gold. The speedster blitzed the field in the 100m and 200m sprints and also topped the podium in long jump.

"Her 200m was very convincing. She was a very very quick runner," team manager Paula Conder said.

It mirrored Maples' performance at last year's event where she also won all three and came second in the high jump.

Eighteen athletes went away with the Athletics Wanganui team to the 37th running of the games which caters for 7 to 14 year-olds. It was held at Newtown Park in Wellington.

Conder said Wanganui Athletes had several top eight finishes at the meeting.

Those awarded top finalist ribbons for top eight finishes were Morgan Murray in the 10-year-old boys' 400m, 800m and 1500m and Atonino Vao in the 10-year-old boys' shot put. Jessica Johnstone was a finalist in the 11-year-old girls' 1200m race walk as was Genna Maples in the 11-year-old girls' high jump. In the 12-year-old boys, Hamish Wood was a finalist in the 1200m race walk. The grade 12 mixed medley relay team also picked up a ribbon. Pennants for a podium finish in each heat were awarded to Ofa Vao for third the 7-year-old boys' discus and third in 7-year-old boys' long jump. Hosea Vao was third in 9-year-old boys' long jump.
