Taihape's Hayden Smith continued his fine form from the first round of the North Island Motocross Championships to finish second overall in the 12-14 years 125cc class at the final round in Hastings on Saturday.
Smith (KTM125) finished 2nd-1st-2nd after epic battles with overall winner Maximus Purvis from Taupo. Bothriders were half a lap ahead of third place on the final lap.
Wanganui rider Tom Gilligan raced in the same class on his YZ125 improving on his first round fifth to finish fourth overall after some consistent riding. At the weekend, he ran 7th-6th-4th.
In the 13-16 years 85cc class, James Rountree (KX85) was 14th after the first round, but consistent riding at the weekend finishing 11th-10th-10th, he ended up 11th overall.
In the 10-12 years 85cc class, Hayden Smith's younger brother Cory finished 14th-10th-10th to come 10th overall.
