Classy greyhound action will be witnessed at Hatrick this evening when heats for two Group races will decide the contestants who will return for next Friday's rich finals.
The headline act this evening will be the appearance of the nation's current leading greyhound Dyna Vikkers.
The recent winner of the$100,000 Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup will step out in the second of four heats for the $40,000 Palamountains Nutrition Spion Rose Cup (Race 3).
The Craig Roberts-trained Dyna Vikkers is the winner 24 of his 31 races, plus seven second placings, since he crossed the Tasman.
He is also a litter brother to last month's winner of the world's richest greyhound race, Dyna Double One in the A$600,000 ($660,000) TAB Melbourne Cup.
The first Spion Rose Cup heat (Race 2) at Group 1 level is likely to turn into a paw wrestle between the Canterbury visitors Arctic Action and Born To Boom.
Heat 3 (Race 4) is the most open-looking heat where the qualifying claims of Rock Lass, Smash Allegro, Rolex Roo, Spud Missile and Cawbourne Crouch cannot be lightly dismissed.
The final heat (Race 5) sees Opawa Shackley clashing with Joe Joe, Cawbourne Brick and Skuzi.
The short course sprinters will contest five heats for the Group 2 $13,000 Liquorland Wanganui Dash For Cash over the 305m sprint.
The recent Group 1 Galaxy Sprint winner Paperbond will match his paws against the sharp northern sprinter Nangar Star in the first heat (Race 6).
Allegro Class was a strong Manawatu 375m winner on Monday.
He comes up against his perennial rival Popsome Tags in the next heat (Race 7).
Adding interest to this dash is the northern trained Festival Miss who has won her three previous sprints here.
Heat three (Race 8) contains last Friday's slick 305m winner Subic Bay with Why Oh Why and Shadow Apache looming as his main rivals.
Wild Effective is a proven Hatrick sprinter and he is favoured to take out the fourth heat (Race 9). The visiting northern sprinters Jay Low and Looks All Good can push him, as can the nicely drawn Allegro Chaser. The fifth heat (Race 9) contains last Sunday's potent Manukau 318m winner Yeboah.
Sedgebrook Babe, Cranky Pants and Vegas Danny will look to deny him his qualifying claim.
