CrossFit disciples often get up early in the morning to do a little weight training, but it will be a dawn start for 10 of the CrossFit Whanganui women who are heading to Wellington at the end of the month.
The group from the town gym have entered the BaDAs VI women's open lifting competition at the MaD CrossFit gym in Petone. Coach Matt Rayner said it will be the first competition for eight of the women, and for some their first competitive athletic event.
For the last six weeks they have been training hard and focusing on their diets.
All the entrants will compete in three events " the back squat, one rep on the bench press, and the Olympic-style clean and jerk.
The top three lifters will be recognised by the weights they can lift per kilo of bodyweight.
"If you're a smaller guy but can lift a lot of weight, you've got a good chance," said Rayner.
The team will leave very early on May 30 in order to make the weigh-ins by 8am in Petone.
Those going are: Jen Kara-Dixon, Sharee Newton, Jazz Hepi, Hayley Morris, Sarah Johnston, Karli Kaea-Norman, Megan Wallace, Lucia Gribble, Nikki Matuschka, Alex Webster.
