Trusting her gut feeling paid handsome dividends for Bulls woman Betty Fraser when she and her family decided to stay later than usual at the Cemetery Circuit Boxing Day races.

Betty, a regular at the Boxing Day bikes, won the Suzuki DR650SE draw for buying an early bird ticket to the annual race meeting.

Winning the brand new machine was a total surprise, but the icing on the cake for Betty was that her ticket was drawn by visiting English rider and international celebrity Guy Martin.

"Meeting Guy Martin was a real bonus. He's a such a lovely bloke and a really likeable sort. He's not a bad rider either," Betty said yesterday.

"I've been going to the Cemetery Circuit since I was about 14 or 15, but usually we leave earlier and try to beat the traffic back home to Bulls. We've been buying the early bird tickets online for the last four or five years and for some reason we decided to stay for the draw this time. I didn't think for a minute I would win the draw, so trusting your gut feeling works," Betty said.

Formerly from Wanganui, Betty and her family now live in Bulls where her husband is in the police force.

"I've had my motorcycle licence for years and in fact, used to own a GN250. It didn't get ridden for years when I had the kids, so my husband sold it to help pay for his new bike. I'm usually the pillion these days, although I've been thinking of getting another bike. "The Suzuki is a bit bigger than I'm used to, but I'll practise on it at home before venturing out on the highways ... Our son has only just got his licence, so we're into bikes. This one certainly won't go unridden," Betty said.
