The Whanganui Secondary Schools Athletics Championships at Cooks Gardens yesterday proved a cakewalk for promising javelin thrower Opetini Dryden.
The Wanganui Collegiate athlete finished well clear of his rivals, throwing just over 50 metres despite carrying an injury.
The throw, however, was short of his personal best of 51.88m.
Theworkout was timely and useful preparation for the upcoming North Island Championships on April 2-3, quickly followed by the Oceania Polynesian Regional Championships in Tahiti.
Dryden's final was earlier in the day followed by track heats to determine the line-up for the finals run later in the evening beyond Chronicle deadline. A full report on the meeting will appear tomorrow.
