"Each track is different, but we've constantly improved our times and last season we didn't have to repair panels or order paint jobs and that says something. We did mow a few lawns, but no serious tumbles. We're getting better," Thomson said yesterday.
"While we have improved each season, so have our opposition and last season we were constantly running around sixth place in the series, although our best performance was at Bay Park Stadium in Tauranga when we finished fourth. That wasn't part of the series, but more of a crowd-pleasing event ... "
In keeping with the all girl theme the Two A Breast crew race in pink and black overalls and wear nipple pink helmets, a look that belies the breakneck speeds they reach and the dangers they face with the 406 Chev motor at full revs.
"It's hard to tell what speeds we actually get up to, but it's pretty quick and there's no room for mistakes," Thomson said.
The pair enjoy their home track at Shelterview at Upokongaro and are disappointed just one round of the series has been allocated to the venue.
"The night meeting later next year has been axed, because of lighting issues they say. It's really disappointing though. We love racing at night."
Whether day or night, the Two A Breast crew simply could not compete in the expensive sport without sponsorship.
"We have a lot of sponsors and we really appreciate all their help, especially from our major ones that include AMF Boats, TCL Communications and the Concrete Company from Nelson," Couper said.
The show begins at 11am on December 27 at Shelterview Jet Sprint Track and runs though until 4.30pm.
"It's a great family day out sitting on the hill with a few beers and a packed lunch. There's a lot of great exciting action," Thomson said.
The Wanganui round will be televised with some of the day's action possibly making the evening news programmes with the full meeting to air at a later date.
