Wanganui Golf Club is starting an aggressive campaign to get new members.
The club is cutting membership rates and also introducing several new competitions to grow club numbers.
The director of golf and facilities at the Belmont links, Norm Rapson, said it would be offering an 18-hole membership for $600from the time of joining until the end of 2016 and a guaranteed subscription of $600 a year for the next two years. Nine-hole membership will be available for $350 for the same period.
All new junior memberships will be free until the end of 2016 and then $20 a year until the end of 2018.
"Sounds aggressive, it is," said Mr Rapson in a club newsletter.
"We need and want new members and this is the first step of an overall objective to making our club more community-friendly and responsive to the world."
More social, nine hole and six hole competitions, and a new juniors initiative are planned.
Rapson said membership had been in decline in the past few years.
