WANGANUI Collegiate School athletes made their presence felt in numbers and by performance at the North Island Secondary School Rowing Championships over the weekend.
Master in charge Gus Scott accompanied crews entered in 47 events at a huge regatta on Lake Karapiro, where 1777 pupils from 95 schools competed.
Scottsaid after two big and busy days of heats and semifinals, WCS crews had won their way into 16 A finals, 6 B finals and a further 4 C finals, 26 in total.
"Finals were spread across our whole squad although our U15s, as usual, found it tough going," Scott said.
After a busy regatta WCS emerged with six medals and two fourth place finishes. The medal haul included two gold, two silver and a brace of bronze.
"Both our U18 eights also A finalled, but missed out on podium finishes," Scott said. Collegiate were the best of the Wanganui crews to compete at the North Island Schools.
Crews from Whanganui High School, Whanganui Girls College, Cullinane and Nga Tawa also represented the region.
WHS' Niamh Monk did claim bronze in the U16 girls' singles, while the remainder of the 20-strong squad made five A finals and four B finals.
