Club to host Melbourne Cup in style

Not sure where to go enjoy the Melbourne Cup atmosphere next Tuesday afternoon? How about forming a group and heading to the Hatrick Raceway?

The Wanganui Greyhound Club will conduct the New Zealand Tuesday greyhound meeting for the big day, with the first of 12 races set down to be dispatched at 5.50pm.

All bar, cafe and tote facilities will be open and operating from noon - the course TVs will be carrying live racing action from Flemington, as well as from all the domestic meetings. The big Melbourne two-miler jumps at 5pm.

The greyhound racing promises to be action packed, as a number of visiting trainers are bringing numerous promising young chasers to Hatrick to contest the seven 520m heats that will be held for the $7000 NZ Racing Series Novice event.

Today's normal Friday evening Hatrick racing begins at 4.45pm and again two TAB Quaddies (Races 2-5 and 9-12) will be held.

The Triple Trio (Races 6-8) carries a guaranteed $10,000 pool.

Trio requires the correct selection of the first three finishers in each of the three races nominated.

The first leg (6.45pm) is an open-looking 305m sprint where Empty Bank, My Jack Attack, Big Fat Gypsy, Big Softy and War On Terror are all capable of placing in the first three.

It could also pay to include the reserve Figlia in combinations, should she gain a race start here.

The second leg isn't any easier, with chasers like Uno Charm, Madam Ice, Where's The Carat, Boston Spirit and Botany Sel holding stakes earning claims.

Again the third leg is an even 305m sprint, where any from Almost Got It, Stiff Drink, Opawa Sister, Ya Laughin' and Bigtime Chip can fill the placings.

Also, Leadfoot Lenny shouldn't be ignored if he gains a race start from off the reserves bench for this sprint.

The best bet looms in the first race, where Bolt Allegro holds strong claims, based on his smart recent 305m winning times.
