It is a huge evening of greyhound chasing action at the Hatrick Raceway tonight where an even, really competitive field will contest the $21,000 Brad Canty Wanganui Cup - Race 9, 8.28pm.

Four 520m heats contested last Friday has brought forward a talented field of greyhounds, while the box draw for this group one event has done little to make predicting the outcome of this race any easier.

Northern trainer Steve Clark provided three of those heat winners and the only heat he didn't provide the winner of was in the heat that his current Wanganui Cup title holder Piggy Back was in, where he finished fourth.

Night Pearl produced the fastest heat time when clocking 30.04s.

A repeat of that free-wheeling gallop will see her again making her presence felt. She must leap smartly from trap four here.

Blitzing Mayhem, who won at group one level on this track in May, pinged away smartly from trap seven and he was never headed after when delivering his 30.16s heat win. He must adopt those same lid pinging tactics from the eight trap here.

Lady Shambi showed her strength in taking out her heat in 30.29s.

Her known strength at the business end will turn into an asset if this race turns into a torrid finish. She is in trap six.

"All three of my runners have pleased me during the week and they are all set to deliver bold races on Friday. I'm more than happy with them," said Clark.

Huntly trainer Denis Schofield qualified two runners with Sassy Road getting up late to win the other heat in 30.12s.

She has been rewarded by being provided with the desired one trap draw here.

Jannik is also a previous group one winner on this track and he returns after his stout finishing five-length heat, second to Lady Shambi.

"I'm rapt with Sassy Road's draw and that has strengthened her claims," said Schofield.

Jannik will be an improved dog for Friday as he missed work going into his heat."

The sole South Island qualifier comes from the Canterbury-based Ray Adcock kennels.

Robbie was bold in delivering his 2 length heat, second to Blitzing Mayhem, and he has drawn nicely in trap two.

"I believe he will give his supporters a great run for their money. Robbie is ready for a big race on Friday," said Adcock.

The remaining two finalists are provided from the potent Lisa Ahern kennels.

Always Welcome was gallant when trying to lead all the way before he was gunned down late by a head by Sassy Road.

Tifino led the chasing pack home behind his litter sister Night Pearl when delivering his five-length heat second to her.
