DEFENDING champions Central Districts and Auckland remained the only unbeaten sides midway through day two of the Wanganui Festival of Cricket's national under-15 girls development tournament at Victoria Park.
While the tournament is more about having fun and the development of the regional representative players, a trophy is up forgrabs at the end of the week-long affair and CD look strong contenders to retain the title.
On Monday afternoon CD dispatched Otago by a good margin. CD set a target of 176/7 after 30 overs, before bundling the southerners all out of just 78 runs. Each of the CD bowlers claimed a wicket and combined with run-outs that was enough to claim victory.
On day one Northern Districts scored 180/4 to Christchurch Metro/country's 94/10, while Auckland beat Wellington by just one run.
Yesterday morning CD set Northern Districts a target of 137 from 26 overs, although the chase proved a bridge too far and ND missed by 10 runs. Auckland took just 17.3 overs to reach Otago's 102 runs, while Christchurch did similar damage to Wellington.
CD continued on its merry way yesterday afternoon setting Wellington a target of 165/7 after 30 overs. The second innings went into the evening and missed the Chronicle deadline for this morning's edition.
Meanwhile, Auckland set Christchurch a chase of 221/8 at the end of their first innings.
Among the tournament gathering is a smattering of top-line regional players alongside several former and current White Ferns, including present captain Susie Bates who is coaching Otago.
