The Wanganui Cadet Corps have been recognised for their contribution to the Mitre 10 Mega Tough Kid competition over the past four years.
On Tuesday, Sport Wanganui representatives Danny Jonas and Rachel O'Connor presented the unit with framed memorabilia to acknowledge their work.
Tough Kid is a competition where primaryschool students from the region complete a challenging obstacle course. Sport Wanganui run the Wanganui and Rangitikei version of the event which together attracts well over 1000 competitors.
Officers and cadets assist the children through the obstacles and encourage the participants to complete the course. Part of the cadet training programme is community service.
Meanwhile, the best of the local Tough Kid competitors will compete at the Regional Tough Kid, hosted by Wanganui next month.
