The kitty and the jack were packed away for the winter on Saturday as Bowls Wanganui Inc had their end-of-season prizegiving at the Laird Park Bowling Club.

Following the Closing Day tournament for the Peter Belliss Cup, the festivities began around 5.30pm to acknowledge the interclub champions and the high achievements over the past six months.

In men's competition, Aramoho's Peter Belliss, the Black Jacks assistant coach, was in the composite team which won the Heartland Bank Bowls NZ Men's Championship Fours.

Wanganui BC's Ray Park and Alan Dickson were third equal in the Championship Pairs, while Aramoho's Ian Porteous, Keith Slight and Kevin Coombe came third equal in the Bowls NZ National Club Championships Triples.

Wanganui BC's Men's Premier 1 Interclub team were runners-up in their section of the Bowls NZ National Interclub, having qualified in the last eight centre events.

At representative level, the Senior Men's team came third in the Arnott Shield and the Development Men were second in the Duckett Trophy, while in the Hexagonal tournament the senior men came fourth.

Moving onto the National Intercentre, the Men came sixth in their section, while the 5-year-and-under Hexagonal saw the Wanganui men finished sixth.

In the other representative levels, the Under 8's Intercentre the men were fifth in their section, while the Men's Masters team came sixth in the annual hexagonal competition, held this year in Johnsonville.

Amongst Whanganui's women bowlers, Wanganui BC's Denise Taylor and Dot Belliss were runners-up in the Heartland Bank Bowls NZ Women's Championship Pairs.

Aramoho's Reen Stratford had a very strong January in Taranaki, where she was runner-up in the Heartland Bank Bowls NZ Women's Championship Singles, third equal in a composite Pairs team and was first equal as Top Woman Player of the Nationals.

Dianne Patterson (Wanganui), Marilyn Constantine (Wanganui East) and Anne Loveridge (Castlecliff) were in a composite team which came third equal in the Championship Fours.

Wanganui BC's Women's Premier 2 team entered the Bowls NZ National Interclub finals, coming runners-up in their section and third equal in the finals.

In representative bowls, the Senior Women's team came third in the Quad Series, while the Development Women's representative team were fourth in their section of it.

At the Hexagonal tournament the senior women came in fourth, while at the National Intercentre they were fourth in their section.

For the Under 8's Intercentre, the Wanganui women were sixth in their section.

At the 5-year-and-under Hexagonal, the women came fifth, while the Women's Masters team were fourth in the annual hexagonal competition held at the Palmerston North BC.

Bowls Wanganui Inc also received positive feedback for their decision to hold all their open centre championship finals on the same weekend, February 11-12, creating a large, spectator-friendly event at the Victoria Bowling Club.
