Whanganui Intermediate School athletes dominated the annual inter-school cross country hosted by St George's School on Friday winning seven of the 12 grades contested.

In total 14 schools and 150 athletes enjoyed the balmy conditions on the Wanganui Collegiate School Golf Course for the 2016 running of the Wanganui Inter-Intermediate Schools Cross Country.

The forecasted rain held off for most of the afternoon as the WIS athletes worked their magic winning the Year 7 individual girls race and six of the age group teams events based on either the three or six to count formats.

Time honours, however, went to individuals from other schools with Morgan Murray from Westmere School clocking 6mins 56sec for the 1.9km course and George Lambert from Hunterville School taking 9mins 49sec to cover the 2.8km course for older runners.
