Whanganui's West Coast Bombers failed to stave off a late charge by Manawatu's Bada Bings in a roller derby clash in Palmerston North at the weekend.
Bada Bings are Swamp City's B team and hosted the match on home turf at Arena Stadium, drawing a decent crowd for what turnedout to be an intense game.
Supporters from both Palmerston North and Whanganui were in full voice as the Bombers and Bada Bings took to the rink.
Whanganui fielded a team whose experience varied widely and included the debut appearance of Janesaw Massacre in the main squad.
The Bombers started strong, keeping the opposition scoreless in the first 10 minutes as they took a commanding lead, but it wasn't long before Bada Bing found their groove and started to get back into the game.
The Bombers still held the lead 98-77 at halftime, but a solid showing in the second half allowed Bada Bings to draw level with just four minutes left on the clock, setting up for an exciting finish.
JustAss, a Team NZ player in the Bada Bings side, led the charge with some great jamming to secure a well-deserved victory with a confident finish, the final score 187-155.
The Bombers are only in their second season as a unit, so were pleased with the performance. The players are looking forward to continued development and challenging themselves against increasingly competitive and skilful teams.
