About 30 archers from around the North Island have made the Marangai Archery Club's Labour Weekend competition an affair to remember.
"It's the club's first major tournament," said beaming spokeswoman Maureen McMillan, the wife of club president Robert. "Some of these shooters are world class and have represented New Zealand
many times."
The McMillans set up the club at their farm in May and after starting with 12 full members and five associates, the roster has grown to more than 40.
Archers from Manawatu, Auckland, Tauranga, and Wellington joined the locals with 90m long-distance targets on Saturday, followed by 50m yesterday and today.
McMillan said plenty of visitors have come through for a look, and the club will be hosting half a dozen groups for shoots before Christmas. The Labour Weekend competition will conclude with prize giving today.
