A woman who fled police at more than 150km/h told police she had been drinking but passed the breath alcohol test.
Aromea Jasmine Te Maipi pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to stop for police when she appeared in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
On June 1, policeattempted to stop Te Maipi on Glasgow St but she fled, eventually reaching speeds in excess of 150km/h on No3 Line.
When Te Maipi stopped later, she told police she had fled because she had been drinking, Sergeant Stephen Butler told the court. However, she passed a subsequent breath alcohol test.
Mr Butler said the Te Maipi's driving had put her and the public in extreme danger.
Defence lawyer Anna Brosnahan said Te Maipi hadn't seen police trying to pull her over. Judge David Cameron said: "If she hadn't seen police behind her, why was she tearing along at 150km/h plus?"
Te Maipi was sentenced to 90 hours' community work and disqualified from driving for six months on the dangerous driving charge, and disqualified for a further three months on the failing to stop charge.
