Whanganui's serial shoplifter Ngaika Kiu has been convicted and sentenced to two months' imprisonment for breaching release conditions.

Kiu appeared in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday and was sentenced by Judge Philip Crayton.

She is currently serving a three-month sentence, having been convicted on four charges of shoplifting in May.

At the time, Judge Dugald Matheson said "she is a recidivist shoplifter, her criminal behaviour blatantly disregards the rights of others in the community".

The shoplifting offences occurred between December 28 in 2017 and January 15 of this year and the shops targeted were Rebel Sport, Pak'nSave and Countdown.

This latest offence takes her number of convictions to over 80 and adds to a tally of imprisonment sentences that was already at 44.

Kiu will appear in Whanganui District Court on Monday, November 19 on trial for charges of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, assault with intent to injure and assault with a weapon.
