Whanganui's Cobham bridge has re-opened after being briefly closed from both directions following a crash on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 4.10pm when a car rolled on the bridge.

Traffic was turned away at both entrances to the State Highway 3 bridge for about an hour while the vehicle was towed.

It is understood a male has been taken to Whanganui Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
