The wet and windy start to the week for Whanganui will clear through the day on Tuesday, Metservice says.

“Those showers are going to clear out in the morning and it will generally become a bit nicer,” meteorologist Alwyn Bakker said.

The better weather would continue into Wednesday but areas toward the central plateau may have some wet weather in the evening.

“Thursday might start getting damp,” Bakker said.

That would lead into a rainy Friday and weekend.

Maximum temperatures are expected to be in the low-to-mid 20s through the week, the coolest day being Tuesday with a high of 20C and a low of 10C.

The rest of this week’s overnight temperatures will be 13-14C.

Monday night’s strong winds would “die off” on Tuesday to a milder southeasterly for the rest of the week.

Despite the varied conditions, Bakker said it did not look like there would be any “severe weather”.
