Whanganui River Road reopened after slip

A large slip that blocked the Whanganui River Road last night has been cleared.

The road was blocked near Pungarehu Marae.

Whanganui District Council senior roading engineer Brent Holmes said the rest of the road was checked and re-opened just after 8am.

ROAD CLOSURE -- SLIP ON WHANGANUI RIVER ROAD - Wed 13 October 6.00am. A large slip has blocked the Whanganui River Road near Pungarehu Marae. Clean up is underway this morning. All essential travel must go out the northern end via Pipiriki onto SH4. Please take extreme care.
