A Whanganui woman is launching a home care service to help those who need support.

Nicky Pearce has created Home SWEET Home Care, offering a service allowing people to stay in the comfort of their own home for as long as possible.

Pearce has worked for 30 years in a number of areas of healthcare, and most recently for five years with Hospice Whanganui.

During this time she saw a need in the community for increased support and wanted to make a difference.

"I've been into people's homes for most of my health career, including 18 years as a midwife," she said.

Home SWEET Home Care will be offering a range of services, from companionship to domestic help, personal care and more.

"It's so diverse what people will want. We will cater for what the needs are for the individuals," she said.

"We're very experienced in end-of-life care as well. The goal is to give people the choice to stay in their own home. That's something we are very comfortable with, and we know what's involved and what support people need."

She will be joined by Robyn Edmonds and Karen McIntyre, who she worked with closely at Hospice Whanganui.

"I know they are brilliant with clients."

Pearce said she had met with various healthcare professionals.

"I'm feeling very encouraged by the response I've had so far. I welcome any enquiries, and can't wait to put the cares in place for people."
