Whanganui Police warn burglars are stealing tools

Police say marking or engraving your tools will help reduce the risk of them being stolen.

Tools are still a prime target for burglars in Whanganui.

Senior Sergeant Shayne Wainhouse, of Whanganui Police, said power tools are particularly sought after by burglars.

Between 9.30pm on Saturday and 9am on Sunday, a vehicle in Anzac Pde was broken into and tools stolen, Wainhouse said.

Around the same time, another car nearby in the street was burgled and searched, with a small quantity of cash taken.

Builders' tools were stolen from a worksite in Gloucester St overnight on Thursday, April 19.

The incidents follow a spate of burglaries of garden sheds and garages, with power tools, chainsaws and other garden equipment being taken.

Police are encouraging people to mark or engrave their tools to reduce the risk of them being stolen and improve the chance of having stolen property returned.
