Academy prize-giving

Whanganui's U-Skills Academy graduates will be recognised with a prize-giving at Central Baptist Church at 5pm this evening. The UCOL-run programme gives secondary school students the opportunity to develop industry skills in areas such as hospitality, health, automotive, hair and beauty while earning NCEA credits.

Chopper to visit

Students at Whanganui Intermediate School will be treated to a visit from an NZ Air Force helicopter today. The helicopter is scheduled to land on the school sports grounds in Dublin St at 10am.

Guilty pleas

A man has pleaded guilty to charges of common assault, resisting police, disorderly behaviour and possessing an offensive weapon. Peter Wayne Williams will appear in the Whanganui District Court for sentencing on December 12.

Armistice remembered

The trustees of St Mary's Church in Upokongaro are holding a special service on November 11, to remember the armistice that ended war on the Western Front in World War I. It starts at 11am at the church, and will include a piper, the laying of flowers, tree planting, war-related readings and singing from Upokongaro School children. All welcome.
