Suspicious house fire
A house fire in Raetihi about 1.30am on Saturday is being treated as suspicious, said Raetihi Deputy Chief Fire Officer Mike Maru. Two fire appliances from Raetihi and one from Ōhakune went to the house on State Highway 4 near Pitt St and police also attended. The occupants
of the house were all safely out when firefighters arrived, Maru said. The fire was at the back of the house, in the laundry/amenities area, which was badly damaged. Fire risk management officer John Hotter was at the property to investigate yesterday.

Injured woman found
A Whanganui fire crew responded to a call in Whanganui East about 4.20pm on Saturday, and found a woman injured - possibly from a fall - and a kitchen full of smoke from a frying pan on the stove. Firefighters helped ambulance staff and the woman was taken to hospital. They also cleared the house of smoke, Station Officer Jes Sorensen said.

Patient airlifted
The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter flew to Flat Hills on State Highway 1 near Mangaweka at 8.45pm on Friday because a woman being transported in an ambulance needed urgent medical help. She was treated at the scene and flown to Palmerston North Hospital.

Pedestrian injured
A pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Levin yesterday at the intersection of York and Salisbury Sts around 4.15pm.
