Whanganui insurance company takes on new adviser

Being able to pop home for lunch and give back to the community he grew up in are just a couple of the perks that led Glen Casey back to Whanganui.

Two weeks ago Mr Casey returned to his hometown with his family to take up a advisory role at Stoneman Insurance and Financial Services.

The former Wanganui Boys College student left when he was 21 years old to kick start his career.

"I spent the last 12 years in sales and previously owned my own life insurance business in Mt Maunganui, operating four branches," he said.

Mr Casey joins the Stoneman team as a life insurance broker but said he would also take on mortgages over the next few months as the business expands into the investment market.

Owner Mark Stoneman took on the family business 21 years ago and has over 2000 clients in the Whanganui region.

The company is currently in the process of rebranding to Momentum Financial Advisors to signal a change in new staff and expansion into the investment market.

Mr Casey said he was thrilled to be living back in Whanganui and reckoned he should have made the shift years ago.

"Living in Tauranga was just getting too expensive. It would take at least half an hour to get from A to B and it took me 55 minutes to get to work every day.

"I wanted to spend more time with my kids - they would be on school holiday but my wife and I couldn't afford to take a couple of weeks of work so they would just be hanging out with themselves.

"Now we are just loving being here."
