An internet and mobile outage that affected people across the country is over.
“Broadband and mobile services have been restored, and we want to apologise to any customers who experienced intermittent mobile and broadband services earlier today,” a One NZ spokeswoman said.
“The issue was caused by a bug innetwork software provided by a technology partner. We have opened a full investigation to ensure this doesn’t occur again.”
Cell and internet services were disrupted across a large chunk of the country this morning, with One NZ customers across the lower North Island, South Island and Stewart Island affected.

Technical problems had taken down about 90 cell towers operated by the Rural Connectivity Group, a joint venture between Spark, One NZ and 2degrees that has built towers around rural and provincial New Zealand, a 2degrees spokesman said.
“One NZ’s outage has impacted around 90 rural cell sites across the country that impacted ... mobile operator and customers use ... we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
About 4% of 2degrees’ towers were affected, all in rural areas with few customers, he said.
Spark was not affected, a company spokeswoman said.
One NZ mobile and broadband outages have been reported from Whanganui south to Wellington in the North Island, across the entire South Island and on Stewart Island.
A One NZ spokeswoman told the Herald earlier today an “intermittent issue” meant some customers were experiencing interrupted service, with their internet or calls sometimes dropping out.
