The district's built heritage, such as the Kawana Mill on Whanganui River Rd, will be celebrated during Whanganui Heritage Month.

Individuals, organisations and businesses are invited to register events for the inaugural Whanganui Heritage Month.

The event, which runs from August 3 to September 13, will celebrate Whanganui's Māori and European built heritage, including the 100 year anniversaries of the Sarjeant Gallery and Durie Hill Elevator.

"The vision is to have a series of eclectic and exciting events to celebrate and highlight any aspect of Whanganui's heritage and history," event co-ordinator Kelly Scarrow said.

Scarrow wants to hear from groups and individuals who are keen to host events during Heritage Month. The events could be tours, information seminars, exhibitions, cultural events or other activities.

"We welcome any partnerships and contributing events with the potential to further enhance this event in our community," Scarrow said.
