The 2017 Harriers Season continues to flourish, with more opportunities available than ever before. Sport Whanganui's Athletics Regional Development Officer Georgia Black is excited about what is on offer for the Whanganui Community. "I would love to hear from anyone who is interested in any of the activities the Whanganui Harrier Clubprovides or supports. We welcome all abilities and ages as there is something for everyone. Come along, have fun, get fit and get faster!"
Some of the activities available are: ■ Whanganui Harrier Club Kids Marathon Training Programme: This programme requires kids to walk/run an accumulated 41km, any time between July 24 to December 8. Children can run/walk 500m or 1000m (1km) per session, with each 5km milestone being signed off. To finish with, on Saturday, December 9, children compete in the McDonald's Fun-Run-Athon (1.2km) at the Pak 'n' Save Whanganui 3 Bridges Marathon, thus completing their own 42.2km marathon. This programme is supplemented with a progress chart and training ideas. ■ For School Athletes: Whanganui Harrier Club has a variety of relays open to schools and athletes in the coming weeks. The Virginia Lake Relay on September 2 is a great opportunity for schools to get involved and have a run before the annual Round the Lake Relays, now in its 39th year.
The popular group training sessions are still running and the Club encourages anyone thinking about attending to come along and have a go. They are held every Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, 4pm-5pm at the Whanganui Harrier Club, Victoria Park, Parsons St. Days may vary dependent on volunteer availability, however contact with attendees will always be made.
