Medical events and injuries around the region required rescue helicopters to be called out several times in the week of September 17-24.
On Sunday, September 17, two rescue helicopters were called to assist an injured man near the Bridge to Nowhere Lodge in the Whanganui River Valley. The Greenlea RescueHelicopter from Taupo and the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter responded because of difficult weather conditions at the scene. The Taupo helicopter was able to access the location and the Palmerston North helicopter was stood down.
A Taihape man in his 70s who was suffering a serious medical condition resulted in a callout for the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter on Monday, September 18. After being stabilised by a paramedic, the man was airlifted to Whanganui Hospital.
Early morning on Thursday, September 21, the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter went to Moawhango on the Taihape-Napier Rd for a local man with a medical condition. He was transported to Palmerston North Hospital for specialist treatment.
On Friday, September 22, the Palmerston North team had an early morning call to Matahiwi in the Whanganui River Valley for a local man in his 50s with a serious medical condition. He was flown to Whanganui Hospital.
