Anne Lupton, the Waverley woman who shared Melbourne Cup-winning joy with her late husband Snow, died this week, aged 75.
Anne was in Melbourne the day Kiwi produced a withering run to win the big race in 1983.
Close friend and former Waverley trainer Kevin Gray said Anne was "one of the
nicest women you'd ever want to meet".
"She was always immaculately dressed. She was one of the most respected ladies in racing."
Gray said Anne was Snow's rock.
"As the saying goes, behind every good man is a good woman, and that was the case with Snow and Anne." Gray trained a few horses for the Luptons.
Probably the best was Loopline, who won five races for Gray, including the Stratford Cup.
Anne is survived by son Warwick and daughters Nickie and Gillian.
Her funeral will be held in Waverley on Saturday at 10.30am.
