There will be a golden glow about this year's Wanganui Orchid Society show.

"We have an annual show, but this one is special because it's our golden anniversary show," organiser Kath Bourne said. "The society has been in existence for 50 years."

Mrs Bourne said that, because of the milestone, the society was expecting a bigger show than usual, with members of orchid societies from around the North Island taking part.

"We've got people coming from as far away as Auckland and Whakatane and Wellington."

Mrs Bourne said there would be orchid displays and orchid competitions, with nine judges who will be revealed on the day.

There will also be stalls selling a wide variety of orchids to the public.

"We're also going to have repotting demonstrations," Mrs Bourne said.

Organising the show was a big job, with most of the club's members chipping in to help. "We're lucky to have quite a few volunteers."
