Upokongaro School turns yellow for Daffodil Day

It was all yellow at Upokongaro School last Friday as children wore their best and brightest yellow clothing and accessories for Daffodil Day.

"They all donated a gold coin to help support the Cancer Society," said principal Warren Brown.

"They are happy to help a cause they all know something about and even the littlest ones know about someone affected by cancer."

Yellow Day rounded off a week of making daffodil posters and decorating the school with posters.

In the afternoon, children were treated to a show presented by The Duffy Theatre group.

Every year, two groups of travelling actors visit schools around New Zealand delivering the message that "It's Cool to Read and Cool to Achieve".

Bernadine Gladding, Sasha Te Whare and Lizzie Morris said their 45-minute show has themes about climate change, dyslexia and saving the earth.

The group will be in the Whanganui region delivering shows to school groups for the next two weeks.
