Contractors continue work to restore power to more than 200 Whanganui properties.

Power was cut to the Aramoho properties this morning after a car crashed into a power pole on Brunswick Rd just after 5am.

Aramoho resident Stacey Williams, who runs Staceys Cakes, was baking when the power went out at her house.

"I've just wasted 16 eggs, 630 grams of butter, flour, a tonne of sugar and 12 baking bananas for a client's cake…I hate waste food," she posted on Facebook.

Williams said it was an inconvenience at first, but saw a silver lining in it after she discovered the power cut was the result of a car crash.

"I have taken this opportunity to teach my twins how to manage themselves in an emergency," Williams said.

"My cake isn't important compared to everyone's safety. I hope everyone affected is safe, warm and has food."

Meanwhile, Aramoho Mags and Lotto remained open posting on Facebook that its Lotto terminals were still working.

Earlier, a police spokesperson said the driver had not yet been located after the Brunswick Rd crash was reported at 5.01am.

"The power pole was still standing, but on a slant, so it caused a small blockage of Brunswick Road," the spokesperson said.

"It looks as though that has been cleared since, the driver has not been found and Police are still investigating."

No injuries have been reported.
